2 Tips for making your blog easier to read in my feeds

Your Number 2

Yes, it is all about me, me, me, today. Well, it is also about you if you write a blog that I want to read or you want me to read. I was scanning through my blog reader today – doing some work avoidance and blog catch up and a few things, so here are two quick set up tips for those who want others to read their blogs – including in feed readers.

1. Have full feeds. Some of you still don’t have full feeds, just teasers or headlines. Sorry, but I’m not reading you. The time it takes to click in accumulates for people like me who read lots of blogs. So either I’m just skipping the tantalizing teases, or I’m unsubbing.

2. Put your name in your blog title, or at the least, in your blog title feed. I appreciate your clever blog titles, but I’m senile and face it, I care more about you than some clever title. I subbed last week to a blog of someone I really like but then saw this odd title in my reader and kept thinking, “huh, I don’t know what that is so I’ll skip it for now.”

  1. Totally agree with the full feed appeal…I read on my Blackberry a lot, and clicking those partial feeds is a deal killer every time.

On the name, I have a problem that I can’t seem to fix no matter how hard I try. When I first started blogging I did it under a pseudonym (drumsnwhistles) and about a year later, came out with my first name. My problem is that I can’t get Feedburner to change my name to Karoli..it keeps publishing me as drumsnwhistles, which drives me CRAZY. I don’t want to ditch a feed that I’ve had for 2 1/2 years and which finally has more than three subscribers, but it shouldn’t be so hard to change to my real name. So don’t unsub me b/c of my name, pretty please? Maybe I’ll figure it out soon.

  2. Oh, that is a nasty problem. Shall we try and track down the folks at Feedburner and see what you can do? It seems like yours is not a unique problem. Heck, I renamed mine! Now I have to go back and see what I did to do that! LOL

But in the mean time, I won’t unsub you!

  3. Hi Nancy, I fully agree (though I wouldn’t know how to change my weird blog name :). On the other hand it’s a good test. I”l remember the names of the real good blogs.

I’d add a number 3: if you post many links for today, I unsubscribe too… If I want links, I will stalk you on delicious! (not sure if that’s the same for others too, but I find it annoying).

As for the change of blog, maybe repost the change once again on your old blog. It happened to me that I was surprised that you weren’t blogging. that’s how I discovered.
