Nancy, both your article and the referenced piece by Dan Oestreich are timely, mercifully compact (as I find in these days of stress no manager has time to read anything more) and powerful. I have forwarded the link to two people close to me who I know are deeply concerned about these issues in their own workplaces, and who will appreciate the concepts and in-place examples of action.

As a product of a mostly excellent MBA program I can concur that very little is done in schooling to prepare future managers for situations like we have today. As suggested, personal values are typically overlooked in the study of business processes. Also the concept of business itself tends to be dehumanized. (The result is much the same as how top medical schools produce brilliant doctors with absolutely no concept about the important role of bedside manner.)

Hopefully with inspiration, guidance and hard work, crisis will become opportunity - but that's not to say it will be easy or pleasant getting there.
