William, thanks for the link. I have downloaded it to read. What is your experience with UNPAN and people's successful transition into knowledge work? Any stories to share?

The "New Skills for Learning Professionals" fills a gap that has been too often ignored elsewhere. I found the piece from a link to one on "Information Literacy" that also raises some important points. May I offer an extension to both articles. Since we an transitioning into a Global Knowledge Economy, Professionals are being recognized as Knowledge Workers (along with those in many other occupations). Has anyone noticed that the basis of this transition, namely Knowledge Work, does not get much attention.

As we move from Industrial Societies to Knowledge Societies, we must "raise the bar" on literacy, going beyond Information Literacy to Knowledge Literacy. When it comes to Knowledge Work, how do "Knowledge" and "Work" interface? What are the processes of Knowledge Work, and what are the standards against which to benchmark one's own performance? The United Nations Public Administration Network (UNPAN) has a freely downloadable e-book on its website, titled HOW TO THINK LIKE A KNOWLEDGE WORKER, that gives some answers to these question: http://unpan1.un.org/intradoc/groups/public/documents/unpan/unpan031277.pdf

A companion volume, titled HOW TO GET RESULTS IN KNOWLEDGE WORK, is currently in process.

[...] Nancy White’s second post contains a fabulous set of guidelines for managing the ‘river’ of information that is hurtling past us at such speed. She talks about the need for scanning skills, filtering skills, synthesising and sense-making skills, as well as the ability to ask good questions.
