Stiki Wiki - Wiki Subtleties

Stiki Wiki floated across my digital world this morning. I like it. I like it.

Go look at this wiki. What do you notice first? What do you notice after you swim around for a while in this lovely gray and sage pool? StikiWiki adds context. CONTEXT! (yes, I'm shouting). Intuitively I'm jumping up and down at my desk because that is what I sense baffles some people with wikis -- it can feel like there is a lack of context because it is presented to us in unfamiliar ways. I'm going to play with this wiki some more!

Nancy, yours is the second reference I've seen to this wiki. I don't think I get it. Aside from some pleasing graphics I'm not noticing anything different.

What am I missing?

The things that I found interesting were:

* The distinction of inbound and outbound links on the right nav bar
* How the boxes in the right nav bar help add explanation to the links within the body of the wiki
* the elegant interface. Try editing a page. It feels like you are editing IN the page, rather than in an edit box. Less sense of distance from the text.

I'll go back and add some screen shots to my post a bit later and elaborate. Or maybe with a separate post if time allows. Fair warning: time is not a kind friend this week!

Nancy, thanks for the specifics. I've taken another look and I agree that the incoming / outgoing link info is nice.

However, I have not found the editing to be particularly easy. Probably because I'm on a Mac and the browsers there are, well, different. I guess I don't have enough wiki experience to feel the pain of the current editing options.

Like you, I just discovered stikiwiki today and am also intrigued. But I'm a fairly new wiki user to start with and I'm wondering about conversion from what I already have started in mediawiki. Also, I'm a little unnerved that there it just seems to be the one file without even a readme.

I agree with you Nancy regarding the elegance of the editing. This is really headed in the right direction. It is a much cleaner implementation than other Wysiwyg Wiki stuff I've seen.

On the other hand, I don't actually find the inbound and outbound links useful. They are cool, but they take up a lot of real estate and, for me, create mental noise. I like the idea of handling inbound and outbound links, but not in this fashion.
