Editorial Comment

Some people have asked why I have linked to blogs that are politically right, left, or in some outerspace zone as I seek online community responses to Katrina.

Frankly, I'm happy to disagree with my friends on the right till we are both blue in the face. I don't often do that on this blog. I'm happy to be baffled by my friends who don't make any sense at all to me.

But right now I'm much MORE happy to work with them in Katrina Community (re)Building. I don't give a &*^%$ if I disagree with their politics. I have my feelings about blame (they are strong and painful at the moment).

I'm angry. But that isn't where I want to put my energy right now.

Peace out

Nancy

Nancy: And if more people could get such fundamental ideas through their heads, the world would be a better place.

Good grief, ignore that crap Nancy, just let it wash right over you. Some people just don't get it and they never will.

Sometimes it comes down to something just SO simple, doesn't it? I admire you Nancy.

Denise, I let it wash over me in one sense - I am ignoring my partisan feelings at the moment. But really what I'm learning is a lot of what the Us/Them telephone calls is about: holding the duality of both feelings within me and in my actions.

Working with those different from us is about letting go of "right" in some theoretical stance and focusing on what is "right" between ourselves, at the moment, in the context. That allows me to hold the difference at another layer and not let it stop me in the moment.

So I can gladly hold my anger and love at the same point in time. Does that make any sense?

I realize how grateful I am for the two group phone conversations in the last 4 weeks and look forward to the next one on Sept 13th. Maybe we should focus on something related to Katrina and the us/them issue?

I am guessing that it will be impossible to avoid a Katrina-like us/them topic next week. Even if we tried, I think we'd all make our way back to that - don't you?

Hang in there!
